Friends in Asheville

Asheville, as usual, was good to us as travelers, but with an itch to head toward unfamiliar ground, we set out South.  Hannah's dear old friend Sam has a fenced-in yard, so Meadow got to spend her first night in a week not tied to a tree... which meant Hannah got some sleep! Thank you Sam and Nate for good sleep, good food and good company.  Thanks to Trip for the use of a computer.

Next stop was Mad Labs Collective, a sleepless lair of creative genius, where philosophies and projects and Moe's leftovers intermingle to create an atmosphere of unrivaled chill and inspiration.  Harvey stayed up most of the night discussing the saving of the world with Curly, Hannah slept on a couch that was hanging from the ceiling, and Meadow slumbered, tied between an outdoor blacksmith shop and a tiny auto-shop.  There was even a multi-computer star trek video game bash going on through the night a couple of doors down.

On our way out, we constructed the first attempt at a pair of home-made shoes for Meadow.

The following day we trekked south and camped a little ways off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Before going to sleep we visited a nearby store but it didn't have what we were looking for.  Feeling like we needed a win before heading back to camp, we detoured to the Mexican bar & grill next door and promptly began showing off Meadow's and Olive's tricks.  It was done as a joke but moments later a waitress came out the door and handed us money, apparently as a tip for an entertaining performance.  So, of course, we gave it back in exchange for food and drink, which was delicious.  We enjoyed a fascinating conversation with the bartender, who told us of his relief work providing water, medicine and supplies to the indigenous Otomi people in the mountains of Mexico.

Olive is slowly but surely learning left and right so Harvey can stay between her and the road.
Meadow, who knows left and right already, is learning to stand patiently between travelling times.
